Young children’s scull bone is also very thin and noise can be transported through the scull, via bone-conduction, to the inner ear with the risk of causing a hearing damage. Therefore, special consideration should always be taken when exposing children to noise, even when using hearing protection. Children´s exposure to excessive noise should always be minimised. It is recommended that earmuffs worn by children are used no longer than 90 minutes without break and maximum 3 hours per day in total.
Earmuffs shall only be worn by children being at least five years old. At this age the bone structure of the children´s head is strong and solid enough that the risk of deformation is eliminated. Before this age, children should never be exposed to potentially harmful sound levels.
The earmuff should be fitted to the child by an adult. The adult needs to ensure the earmuff is worn correctly and continuously by the child, following the instructions and warnings stated in the user manual of the hearing protector
